About Us: Preschool Purpose
Better World Preschool is a vibrant, inclusive Jewish educational community warmly welcoming families and children of all backgrounds from Millburn and beyond.
About the Preschool
Formerly Congregation B’nai Israel Preschool, our new name reflects the urgent need to build upon the enduring universal values of Judaism and embrace a forward-facing vision to prepare children for a future where kindness, collaboration, and resilience are more important than ever. We know you understand the challenges our world faces—from social divisions to environmental concerns and beyond. Our name embodies our commitment to helping young children build a strong foundation of learning and character, equipping them to navigate and contribute positively to an ever-changing world. This name represents not just our mission, but our belief in the potential of every child to thrive and to make a difference.
Our difference and philosophy
With an age-appropriate, enriching curriculum that will assure your child is ready for kindergarten, our program balances educational fundamentals with the growth of social skills and emotional resilience. Flexible hours and enrollment options are designed to meet families’ changing needs. Whether a child is learning to share, discovering nature, celebrating Jewish traditions, or participating in a science project, they’re also learning the importance of kindness, responsibility, and respect for all. We are more than a preschool; we’re a community dedicated to helping young children and their families thrive, creating brighter futures one joyful experience at a time.
Our curriculum is built on the principles of a well-structured play-based learning program, incorporating early literacy and numeracy in ways that your child will find engaging and enjoyable, setting the stage for a positive trajectory in elementary school. Evidence consistently favors play-based learning environments for preschoolers as they are found to best align with the developmental needs of young children and help build a strong foundation for both academic and social success.
Our history
The Preschool at Congregation B’nai Israel, established in 1975, continues a 50-year history of recognition throughout the community for early childhood education excellence, developing in children ages 3 months to pre-K social, emotional, literacy and numeracy skills and an appreciation for the universal Jewish values of learning, respect, caring, and repairing the world, in a state-of-the-art facility. Since its founding, our programs have prepared thousands of children to continue their education and development in top public and private schools throughout Essex, Union and Morris counties.
