Better World Preschool is a play-based Jewish preschool and early childhood center serving families in Millburn, Short Hills, Livingston, West Orange, and the surrounding MetroWest New Jersey community. Located at 160 Millburn Ave within Congregation B’nai Israel, we welcome children from infancy through Pre-K — and children and families of every background.

Fifty years of early childhood education in Millburn
Originally established in 1975 as the Congregation B’nai Israel Preschool, Better World Preschool has spent five decades building a reputation for early childhood education excellence in Essex, Union, and Morris counties. Over that time, our programs have prepared thousands of children for successful transitions into top public and private elementary schools throughout the region. That history doesn’t sit on a wall — it shows up every day in the relationships we build, the community we sustain, and the families who return generation after generation.

A curriculum built for how young children actually learn
Our program is grounded in play-based learning — the approach that decades of early childhood research consistently shows best matches the developmental needs of children from 3 months through age 5. That means early literacy and numeracy are woven into joyful, hands-on experiences rather than seated instruction. Children build social skills, emotional resilience, and genuine curiosity alongside the academic foundations that set them up for kindergarten readiness and beyond.

Programs include: Infant Care, Beginners (toddlers), Discover (age 2), Create (age 3), Thrive (Pre-K), Before & Aftercare, Summer Camp, and Synagogue Programs. Flexible scheduling options are available to meet working families’ needs.

Better World Preschool is rooted in the universal Jewish values of learning, kindness, respect, and tikkun olam — repairing the world. Those values aren’t confined to holiday celebrations. They’re the lens through which children learn to share, collaborate, care for their classmates, and understand their place in a larger community. Families of all faiths and backgrounds are warmly welcomed. We are also proud participants in the PJ Library program, providing Jewish-themed books and music to families throughout MetroWest NJ.
